Fairview History Retold
Twice Around the Township is a compilation of 73 articles about Fairview (PA) history that were printed in the author’s column in the Cosmopolite Herald beginning in 1983 and concluding in the late 1990s. The newspaper was sold to the Times Publishing Company and ceased publishing about that time. It is tabletop size and includes articles on such topics as the early settlements, early transportation, people, politics, special buildings, legends, schools, disasters, murder, wars, special years, outhouses and more… all with a Fairview emphasis. For example, “The Week President Kennedy Died” tells how this news impacted several local residents, what they had been planning to do that week, what they were listening to that week, etc.
This issue is the second, thanks to a continuing interest in these vignettes of local history. The photo section includes 37 photos and three sketches (of the first church, first minister and first settlement).
The book is fully indexed.
For a look at rural America in its early days – 1797 to 1995 – Twice Around the Township is a good place to start!
