Twice Around the Township

Fairview History Retold

Twice AroundTwice Around the Township is a compilation of 73 articles about Fairview (PA) history that were printed in the author’s column in the Cosmopolite Herald beginning in 1983 and concluding in the late 1990s. The newspaper was sold to the Times Publishing Company and ceased publishing about that time. It is tabletop size and includes articles on such topics as the early settlements, early transportation, people, politics, special buildings, legends, schools, disasters, murder, wars, special years, outhouses and more… all with a Fairview emphasis. For example, “The Week President Kennedy Died” tells how this news impacted several local residents, what they had been planning to do that week, what they were listening to that week, etc.

This issue is the second, thanks to a continuing interest in these vignettes of local history. The photo section includes 37 photos and three sketches (of the first church, first minister and first settlement).

The book is fully indexed.

For a look at rural America in its early days – 1797 to 1995 – Twice Around the Township is a good place to start!

By 2009 I had three books available, two of which were self-published. That year I was ready to print a biography of an incredible pilot in my community and decided the book needed a website and a publishing company. Hiflightpress.com was born. Since then, I have written and self-published several more books and booklets, all on local history, and most have a link to national and world affairs. I have many newspaper and magazine credits and a degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University. Yes, I write about history, but I have found that history is really about people. And people are fascinating.
